Our history at Charminster Chapel.

We believe our God is a powerful God, one that has ordained a plan for each one of us, as well as the life of Charminster Chapel.

Whilst Holdenhurst and Throop have existed for many years, with Throop being described in historical texts In 1842 as a ‘pleasant and succeeded village’, Charminster as an area began growing in the 1880’s, booming into the early part of last century.

CHARMINSTER GOSPEL HALL

Whilst the area surrounding the church developed at the start of the century, Charminster Chapel itself was built in 1928 (known as Charminster Gospel Hall), after several people received a calling from God to build a church in the local area.

Part of the land was donated from a local Christian, whilst the other half was funded by a few individuals. It is that generosity that continues to be a theme throughout Charminster Chapels history.

Keith Jones Christian Bookshop Bournemouth

The main building, land, furnishings and organ came to a grand total of £1475, with a separate building being erected, specifically for children’s work.

Keith Jones Christian bookshop is a well known store in the local area amongst Christians today, but perhaps lesser known is that in 1934 Mr Keith Jones was involved in the young peoples work in Charminster Gospel Hall. In 1963 the old youth hall was demolished and a new brick hall built at the rear of the church which continues to be used today for our kids work.

CHARMINSTER CHAPEL

Around the turn of the century, Charminster Gospel Hall changed its name to Charminster Chapel, with a church refurbishment taking place during 2019. Up until recently, Charminster Chapel has never had full time employees, instead relying on visiting speakers.

However, Charminster Chapel, now a thriving church, has a full time pastor, and caters for a wide range of ages, from a number of families with small children to those in their latter years.
